Happy Hour: The Woo Woo Cocktail 2.0

True story. When I was in high school, I had a side hustle business (surprise, surprise) taking care of neighborhood homes when the owners went on vacation.

It was an awesome gig - I would go over once a day to said house, feed the cat, water the plants, and make sure everything was in order. I lived in a quiet, suburban neighborhood on a golf course, so this job worked perfectly with my paper route, weekend babysitting duties, and a part-time job at the local fabric store. 95% of the time, it was a sleepy gig - except for when I got to watch after the house with The 19th Hole.

The 19th Hole: The Woo-est Time of My Life

This house was awesome, and I idolized the owner. She was what I could only hope to become when I grew up - a single, fiercely strong woman who lived life by the seat of her pants, traveling to far-flung destinations you couldn't even pronounce. She spent four days a week on the golf course and relaxed at night with all her cool friends in her spare bedroom turned party bar, which she called The 19th Hole.

This room was all you could imagine and more – a dimly lit room complete with twinkling lights draping from the overhead glass rack, with every single type of alcohol you could imagine hanging from it. Her alcohol had the best up-lighting – it was so good, it would even make a Kardashian jealous, for real. There were comfy, pleather bar stools with brass nailheads that surrounded the U-shaped bar and plush shag carpeting. She even had a jukebox in the corner and a spinning disco ball hanging from the cottage cheese ceiling.

(This is not actually the 19th Hole, but the closest home bar photo that I could find that resembled the Party Bar.)

My best girlfriend and I would go over after school, feed Marshmallow the Cat, water the ficus, pick up the newspaper, take in the mail, then learn how to make mixed drinks at the Nineteenth Hole. You know I love free spirits, and that applies to open bars, too!

Like the “it party girl,” Carrie Bradshaw once said: “Every once in a while, a girl has to indulge herself!” So, this week, I am revisiting some cherished old memories by revitalizing the Woo Woo cocktail. The Woo Woo was my go-to drink at the time. It was easy to make, tasted as sweet as the days I spent in the 19th Hole, and you could barely taste the alcohol... AND, it was so fun to say: "It’s Woo Woo time!" Let me tell you, the Woo Woo juice really had our fun juices flowing!!

The OG Woo Woo cocktail is sweeter than you could ever imagine. And, back then, I couldn't drink them fast enough. But, now that I'm an old bag, I've come up with a lighter version which I proudly call: “The Woo Woo 2.0”. I have posted both Woo Woo cocktail recipes complete with more is more flair for the cocktails inspired by the Nineteenth Hole Spare Bedroom Party Bar, where I spent some of the best nights of my life.

So, any girls out there up for a heavenly sip of the delicious Woo Woo drink? Let’s mix things up!

The OG Woo Woo Cocktail Recipe

Any queens out there in need of some liquid therapy? Vodka and peach schnapps may not be the answer, but hey, it’s worth a shot, right girls? If life gives you limes, just make a Woo Woo cocktail and shake it off! After all, nothing can match the healing powers of a well-made, fancy fruity cocktail. There really is nothing a glass of the traditional OG Woo Woo drink can’t fix.

Time to fruit out the problem!

Ingredients

  • 1 Ounce Vodka: I am partial to Tito's
  • 1 Ounce Peach Schnapps Liqueur: Can you believe I had to go to 3 different Super Markets to find it!? It really had me going on a wild peach schnapps chase!
  • 2 Ounces of Cranberry Juice: I love the Light Ocean Spray – it has so few calories you don't feel guilty!
  • Fresh Lime
  • Ice Cubes
  • Tall Highball Glass - Yes, a tall one because size does matter. No one wants a small cocktail!
  • Fun curly straw and fabulous drink whirly gigs - more is more, more is better!

Fill 2/3 of the highball glass with ice cubes. Add Vodka, Peach Schnapps, and stir in the Cranberry Fruit Juice. You can always use a cocktail shaker if you prefer. Top it off with a squeeze of fresh lime juice and lime wedge garnish, and add fun party drink accents to the mix to spice things up.

    Sip, Sip, Hooray!
