Fabulous Las Vegas Weekly Dead Head Roundup, July 25- 31

Fabulous Las Vegas Weekly Dead Head Roundup, July 25- 31

One week until we are all back in Vegas 🎉🎉🎉 and we wanted to keep the train rolling down the tracks for all of your party plans and preparations for your last 2 weeks of summer shows. It's sure been a heater of a summer-  literally and figuratively speaking. From 120 degree days to shows that stole your face right off your head- this has been a summer to remember!   It's been such a joy meeting everyone, and we will continue to bring you the best of the Grateful Dead Fabulous best until the final summer show on August 10!  Here's some Team Fab recommendations that will keep you well fed, well partied, and looking sharp until then.

Meg Fab Appearance:  Get ready, I will be back next week at Headcount, Shakedown Vegas, and the Fab Happy Hour will commence once again.   I will also be personally making the daily Fab in a Flash Deliveries, so keep an eye out for which days on my IG and in the FB group pages.   Stay tuned next week for all the announcements- I will have a daily breakdown on the when/ where/ and all the deets!   I can announce that these last two weeks, Thursdays will be "deadicated" to HEADCOUNT- so you can count on seeing me at the Forever Dead Experience, on Thursdays!

Steves Weekly Dinner Reservation Recommendation:  Los Cedros Mexican Restaurant

When I’m scrolling Yelp, trying to find a great place to eat that Meghan will be excited about, I have a few key “tells.”  These include basic stuff like good non-dairy menu options, creative cocktails and glowing customer reviews, obvs.  But MUCH more important is what I’m looking for in their photos:  I need to see COLOR!  Funk, sparkle, boldness, uniqueness and a decorative vision from whoever put the place together.  It’s gotta feel alive and electric - y’know - EXTRA. You’ve seen Meghan, right?  Are you picking up what I’m putting down?

Have I got the place for you this time around - and its my favorite food - Mexican!  Intensive attention to every single decorating detail.  Uniformity, symmetry and clean lines balanced with an explosion of color, light and uber-creative decorating.  But wait, there’s more!  It’s a family owned place where the entire staff is as friendly as your Uncle Marv (or Uncle Julio, maybe?) and wants to be darn tootin’ positive that you’re comfortable, welcome, happy and well fed.  And it’s a joint for locals - most definitely not an atracción turística.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Los Cedros Mexican Restaurant, just a couple miles East of the Strip on Flamingo Rd, and a WORLD away from crowded casinos, overpriced shops and $40 margaritas.  YOU. MUST. GO.

Both of us ordered burritos.  Meghan’s was a shrimp fajita burrito and mine was steak, smothered in copious amounts of cheese and tangy crema.  In today’s age of shrinkflation, Los Cedros came shining through with generous portions that were deliciously prepared and seasoned - and priced super reasonably!  Both burritos were as big as your head and fed us not only dinner, but two additional full meals each!  The margaritas were unmatched and to-die-for - made with fresh lime juice and stirred to perfection.
And best of all?  Meghan LOVED the place.  <fist pump>  The entire joint is festooned with colorful Mexican decorating, flowers, blankets, artwork, kitchen gadgets, plants covering the walls, and unique and interesting knick-knacks everywhere.  I could see Meghan soaking in all the creative juices and absorbing the color into her soul.  It energizes her!  Well done, Steve.  Well done! 🤠

Meg's 2 Cents:  The Bathroom, or Baño if you are feeling authentic is a MUST Selfie moment!  Totally over the top bubble gum pink everything- it's a must visit even if you don't have to "go."  The delicioso burritos are bigger than your face and will last you 3 meals- for $20, be prepared to have the most incredible meal and fabulous  photoshoot!

Meg's Shopping Find:  Cowtown Boots

I first discovered Cowtown Boots back in April when Steve & I were in town for the Phish shows working with LP Giobbi.   LP's stylist, Embry Fox and I were in need of some "sexy" pieces to go under the designs I had created for her 3 night run at Brooklyn Bowl.  Of course we headed to my favorite, Hotties World (see blog post from Week 2, May 22-28) for all the good-good sexy under apparel.  As we were leaving Hotties with arm loads of sexiness, I noticed in the same parking lot:  Cowtown Boots!!  Of course we needed to go into Cowtown.... how could you not!!  One step inside and I quickly snatched up a new Stetson Rancher in Silver Belly for Steve on the spot, and at a discount!  Y'all know how much Steve loves himself a cowboy hat!!

Since April, Steve and I have both separately and together raided Cowtown for incredible western finds.  Cowtown is exactly what you would think it would be- an "everything western emporium under the sun," and all at a bargain price.  Really amazing embroidered name-brand boots that you would find elsewhere online for $700+, Cowtown if giving the same away for $150.  Fabulous feather hat bands you can rock on any of your non-cowboy hats... cool, tooled leather belts, children's pink cowboy boots that make me want to have a child just to buy them.... they have all the western fabulous!

Steve saw an amazing embroidered western skull shirt complete with rhinestones in the Dallas airport back in January for an astronomical amount ($130, of course I told him we could find it cheaper elsewhere..) He bought the same exact shirt at Cowtown for $75!!!  Steve's been dying for the perfect suede fringe jacket since the day I met him.... He found "the one" at Cowtown!  Of course I urged him to not buy it and wait until it goes on sale.... Pssst... don't tell him that I am buying it for Christmas, but I need your help!!  Tan suede or Black suede??  I'm going to lock it down when we get back to Vegas next week.

Run, don't walk to Cowtown Boots in Las Vegas!!  It's on Flamingo Road, just down the way from the Tuscany Suites (Shakedown) for something different and unique that no other Fabulous Dead Head will have at the shows!!!

David’s Pick of the Week:  Club Brat: Charlie xcx Night

Guilty pleasures. We all have them. They creep out in all aspects of our lives - Food. Fashion. Art. I could keep going but we're gonna take a minute here to talk music. We all love The Dead - that's why we're here. The fun part is that the music of The Dead has not only been culled from the deepest corners of Americana, but it's opened the door and given roots to an equal amount of musical awesomeness. Drums & Space has served as a gateway to many 4 on the floor dance music bangers. LP Giobbi's now classic house spin on the Garcia record with Deal now finding itself in club sets amany, doesn't feel that crazy if you welcome the flow.

If you're old and lucky enough to have been on Dead tour in the 90's, when the show let out and late night shakedown was in full stride, some people ran for a grilled cheese, others a balloon or a beer. Many all three. But there was also The Disco Bus. And it was exactly that, a converted school bus with a massive sound system that threw a disco dance party that oft gathered hundreds if not 1000+ (hazy memory) people that got into the groove and didn't want to stop dancing. But they didn't just play disco. Sometimes it was 80's radio hits and in the later years as the Detroit and Chicago Techno scene were being born, we got some killer, soon to be club classics. It was so much stinkin' fun! A guilty pleasure for some. But always pleasurable for all...

So that brings us to this Saturday at Brooklyn Bowl. No Dead cover band. No Jam Band. But this week we have Club Brat: Charlie xcx Night. If you don't know Charlie xcx by name, you've definitely heard her earworms bumping out of cars in traffic or your kids bedroom. She's a dance pop superstar and her new record, Brat includes THE song(s) of the summer. A la Black Eyed Peas or Gwen Stefani circa 2004. She's my guilty pleasure du jour and we've already got a crew amassed to meet up at da club. Expect all your (my) Cxcx favs and if we're lucky, they just might throw in a remix of Call me Maybe - and if that wasn't/isn't your guilty pleasure, get familiar...

Best Pool Party:  GO!  Pool Party, Flamingo Hotel

It's all about the GO! Pool Party at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.  I still think this is the hottest every day pool party on the strip- prove me wrong!!  Seriously, when I was in my 20s, we used to drive out to Vegas every weekend just for the summer pool parties. And I have to say, the Go! Pool Party every Saturday at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino is just like the Vegas summer pool party in the good old days.  It’s adults only, and the energy is electric. The music is pumping and nearly naked beautiful people are everywhere.  It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for 24 hour party people Vegas energy.
